Guide to Chamber Music

  • Book
  • Melvin Berger

Authoritative, beautifully written guide presents 231 of the most frequently performed pieces of chamber music by 55 composers. For each, the author gives a brief biography, followed by discussions of the individual compositions–both their historical and musical contexts and their salient features, including formal organization, content, and any extramusical associations. “No lover of chamber music should be without this Guide.”–John Barkham Reviews. Clementi: Sonatina in C major, op. 36 no. 1 (complete)

Posted by admin on 29th 12月 2008 in Sonatina

Muzio Clementi (1752-1832) was born in Italy and lived most of his life in England. He is often regarded as the “father of modern piano playing”, who lived at a time when the pianoforte was rapidly evolving into the more modern 19th-century piano. Clementi was influenced by such composers as Scarlatti and Haydn and taught John Field (who influenced Chopin). Clementi was also involved with music publishing and the production of pianos. Ludwig Van Beethoven’s (1770-1827) Piano Sonata No. 14 in C Sharp Minor, “Moonlight”, Op. 27 No. 2. Presto – Adagio – Tempo. Composed in 1800-1801, and played in a concert of unknown date by Tatiana Nikolayeva (1924-1993), a Russian Soviet master pianist, composer and teacher. This is by far the best I’ve ever heard anybody play this masterpiece. Just listen to the tumultuous applause Tatiana enjoys at the very end!
